Focus and Scope
The Illuminare is an online, open access, peer-reviewed journal that aims to publish original student work in the field of leisure studies. Originally established in 1992 by students in the Indiana University RPTS Department, the journal has been emblematic as the premier student-generated leisure journal. The Illuminare seeks to include papers from the leisure field broadly and the five core specializations within our field:
· Recreational Sport Administration
· Park and Recreation Management
· Outdoor Recreation
· Recreational Therapy/ Therapeutic Recreation
· Tourism Management
The Illuminare strives to light the way by reviewing, encouraging, and assisting students in efforts to publish and participate in the publishing process, to illustrate by distributing scholarly work, and to inform by sharing student research in the field of parks, recreation, tourism, or leisure studies.

General Leisure - Other
This section is for all general leisure/recreation articles that do not fit within the specific topic areas provided.
Therapeutic Recreation/Recreational Therapy
These articles have an emphasis in therapeutic recreation/recreational therapy areas.
Parks and Recreation Management
This section pertains to all articles with a recreational sports focus.
Recreational Sport Administration
This section pertains to all articles in the area of Recreation Sport Administration.
Tourism Management
This section pertains to all articles that have to do with the Tourism Industry

Research Briefs
Peer Review Process
The Illuminare is published on an annual basis, with reviewers selected in August and the review process beginning in December. The manuscripts undergo a double-blind peer review process involving at least two reviewers and an area Topic Editor. A reviewing rubric and criteria specified by the Editorial Board are utilized for each submitted manuscript. The initial review process is approximately four weeks long, with the revision process lasting an additional four weeks.
Reviewers are recruited from universities throughout North America and selected through a stringent application process.
Publication Frequency
The Illuminare will publish all articles collectively in an annual edition each spring.
Open Access Policy
This journal provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge.
Archiving
This journal utilizes the LOCKSS system to create a distributed archiving system among participating libraries and permits those libraries to create permanent archives of the journal for purposes of preservation and restoration. More...
